J. Arnold Strickland Owner / Managing Funeral Director
Born and raised in Hartwell, Arnold started working at Strickland Funeral Home at the age of 10. After graduating from Hart County High School in 1983, Emmanuel College in 1985 and Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in 1986, he returned to work at the family business. He is a member of the Georgia Academy of Graduate Embalmers, the National Funeral Directors Association, the Georgia Funeral Directors Association and Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge. Arnold and his wife Tammy have two children: Abbie and Matthew.
Nell B. Strickland Co-Founder / Funeral Director
A native of Bowersville GA, Nell is co-founder of Strickland Funeral Home. She is a licensed funeral director. Nell is active in a number of civic clubs and is a member of the Hartwell First Baptist Church.
Courtney Umbehant Managing Funeral Director
A resident of Lavonia, Courtney and his wife, Natalie, have two children Noah and Olivia, and are members of the Lavonia Church of God. Courtney is an ordained bishop with the Church of God and is privileged to preach in many local churches regardless of denomination. He currently serves as councilman with the City of Lavonia and as a board member of the Franklin County Board of Health.
He is a licensed funeral director and embalmer and is a member of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers of Georgia, the National Funeral Directors Association, and the Georgia Funeral Directors Association. Courtney has been with the funeral home for more than fifteen years and serves as the manager of our Lavonia Chapel.
Mickey Umbehant Funeral Director
A native of Habersham County, Mickey began his funeral service career more than thirty years ago and has been with us for more than twenty years. Mickey is an ordained minister with the Congregational Holiness Church and has served as a pastor for more than thirty-five years. He is currently the pastor of New Vision Worship Center in Baldwin, GA. His hobbies are working on cars and spending time with his grandchildren.
He and his wife, Teresa, have a son and daughter-in-law, Courtney and Natalie, and two grandchildren, Noah and Olivia. He is a licensed funeral director and embalmer and is a member of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers of Georgia, the National Funeral Directors Association, and the Georgia Funeral Directors Association.
Jamie Johnson Funeral Director
A native of Hart Co, Jamie is a licensed funeral director & embalmer. He graduated from Hart Co. High School in 1991. He is a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Jamie is also a volunteer fire fighter and a member of the Bowersville Masonic Lodge.
Terrell Floyd Funeral Director
Terrell is a native of Lavonia. He is the son of Terry Floyd and the late Brenda (Lankford) Floyd. He is a maintenance technician with the US Postal Service. He and his wife, Melanie, have two daughters, Taylor and Maylee and one granddaughter, Kambrey. They are members of Lavonia First Baptist Church. Terrell is a licensed funeral service director.
Patsy Bartlett Hartwell Office Manager
A resident of Hartwell, Patsy retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections before joining our staff as the office manager of the Hartwell Chapel. Patsy and her husband Jeff are members of the Bethesda United Methodist Church. They have two children, Nathan Bartlett and Medley B. McIntosh and three grandchildren Grady, Bailey and Brinley Bartlett.
Michael O'Barr Assistant Funeral Director
A native of Lavonia, Michael worked for Weldon Funeral Home part time prior to his graduation from Lavonia High School in 1964. After serving four years in the US Navy, Mike attended and graduated from Piedmont College in Demorest Ga. After employment in the precast concrete and injection plastic molding industries he retired in 2007. Mike is also a retired fireman, having served as fire chief with the Lavonia Fire Department. He currently serves as a board member for the City of Lavonia Hospital Authority. He enjoys traveling and serves as our resident Lavonia historian.
Mike and his wife, Sally, have two sons and daughters-in-law Scott & Hollie and Ryan & Cindy and four grandchildren.
Earl Sayer Assistant Funeral Director
A native of Hart Co, Earl retired from Westinghouse of Athens before joining the staff of Strickland Funeral Home as an assistant funeral director. Earl and his wife, Carol, are members of the Holly Springs Baptist Church.
Terry Floyd Assistant Funeral Director
A Lavonia native, Terry retired from the US Post Office in Lavonia after many years of service. His hobbies are woodworking, hunting, fishing, and just about anything that involves the great outdoors.
He and his wife, Lori, are members of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he serves as deacon. Terry has a son and daughter-in-law: Terrell and Melanie Floyd; step-daughter and son-in-law: Lindsey and Brandon Cothran; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Frankie Teasley Assistant Funeral Director
A resident of Hartwell, Frankie retired from Georgia Department of Corrections before joining our staff as a funeral home director assistant. Frankie and his wife Crystal attend Sardis Baptist Church. He has two children Hillary and Hannah Teasley.
Howard and Marlene Sheriff Visitation Attendants
Residents of Bowersville, Howard retired from Aerial Fabrics and Marlene is retired from Northeast Georgia Bank. They have served as visitation attendants for more than thirteen years. They are active at Lavonia First Baptist Church, where Howard is a member of the church choir. They have two daughters and four grandchildren.
Byron Toney Assistant Funeral Director
A native of Lavonia, Byron is a veteran of the US Air Force. He retired from Adams Motor Express in 2001. He is the brother of the late Jeanette Weldon, former owner of Weldon Funeral Home. He is married to Diane Haley Toney. They are the proud parents of two children: Chuck and Martha, and proud grandparents to six grandchildren.
Byron is an active member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church, where he has served the church in numerous capacities. He volunteers with the Hospital Auxiliary at St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital.
George Garriss Assistant Funeral Director
A resident of Lavonia, George was born in Marietta, where he served on various boards, including the Marietta City Council and the Marietta City Board of Education. He is a veteran of the U. S. Navy. George, with his wife, the late Marvella Dodd Garriss, moved to Lavonia following retirement from Southern Bell (Bell South) at the age of 52. He began working with the Boy Scouts when his sons were members, and continued to be involved with Troop 51 in Lavonia for many years. He is an avid model train enthusiast and enjoys working outdoors. George is an active member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church.
Doug Hilley Assistant Funeral Director
A native of Hart Co, Doug is retired from Owens-Corning Fiberglass and serves as an assistant funeral director. He and his wife, June Cordell Hilley, have two sons. He is a Court Bailiff for the Hart Co. Superior Court and an active member of the Sardis Baptist Church.
Jerry Brown Assistant Funeral Director
A native of Hart County, Jerry is retired from the Division of Public Health, Georgia DHR and from the Georgia Army National Guard. He is a graduate of Hart County High School and Clemson University. He and his wife, the late Carolyn Holland Brown, returned to Hartwell after living in Snellville, Georgia for 28 years. They have two children, Melanie and John and are active in the First Baptist Church of Hartwell.
Alton Johnson Assistant Funeral Director
A native of Hartwell, Alton is retired from Johnson & Johnson. Alton is a graduate of Hart County High School and is married to Rachelene Bailey Johnson. He has two children. He is an active member of the Hartwell First United Methodist Church and serves as an assistant Funeral Director.
Martha Dorsey Chapel Pianist
A native of Hartwell, Martha serves as chapel pianist for our Hartwell Chapel. She is a licensed Cosmetologist and is married to Tommy Dorsey. She has three children. She is a member of the Flat Shoals Baptist Church where she serves as church organist.
