Mr. Billy Powell

Mr. Billy Powell, age 81, of Lavonia, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022 at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital. Born October 9, 1940, in Franklin County, he was a son of the late Roy Westmoreland and Willie Viola Aldrich. He retired from AutoZone as a maintenance technician. He loved gospel singings and going to auctions and flea markets. Mr. Powell was a member of the Lavonia Church of God. He is survived by his wife: Shirley Ann Ward Powell; son & daughter-in-law: Todd & Katherine Powell; brother: Tommy Holly; sister: Sally Cooper; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father: Henry Powell; brothers: James Powell and Gus Powell; and sister: Frances Bratcher. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the Lavonia Church of God with Rev. Hubert Carter and Rev. Adam Tripp officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Marty Hambrick, Kyle Hammons, Steven Hammons, Wyatt Hammons, Chad Peterson, and Robby Peterson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
