Mrs. Mary Jo Whitworth

December 21, 1929 - April 10, 2022

Mary Jo Milford Whitworth, age 92, of the Red Hill Community, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Pruitt Athens Heritage following an extended illness. She was born December 21st, 1929, in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Clarence and Gladys South Milford. At 16 she married the love of her life, Marshall William Whitworth. Following his untimely death, she went back to school and worked in healthcare. She retired from Ty Cobb Healthcare as the Ward Secretary for the Labor & Delivery Department. She was a member of Broad River Baptist Church, where she served for many years as the church organist and member of the Broad River Trio. Mrs. Whitworth faithfully attended campmeeting at the Poplar Springs Methodist Campground, where she enjoyed fellowship with friends and family. In later years, she was a member of the Allens Methodist Church Choir. Mrs. Whitworth was an amazing cook; she was especially known for her pound cakes and fried apple pies. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #417 in Red Hill. She loved flowers and enjoyed working on the family farm. She was an avid University of Georgia Football Fan and earned a reputation for being well dressed and stylish. However, her greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Danny Whitworth, Ricky Whitworth (Laurie), Jimmie Ann Khoury (Sami), and Mary Whitworth; brother: Don Milford (Patsy); grandchildren: Adam Whitworth (Giedre), Carrie Miranda (Joe), Candice Oliver (Ross), Steven Barrett (Teresa), Blake Whitworth (Jenn), Wilson Vitale, and Hollen Vitale; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings: James Milford, Esco Milford, Pat Milford, Dean Milford, and Barbara Andrews. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 1st, 2022 at Broad River Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Crunkleton officiating. A reception will follow the service. Mrs. Whitworth was cremated in accordance with her request. Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia is in charge of the arrangements.
