Agnes Skelton Chastain, 94, widow of Horace J. Chastain, died November 28, 2018, in Thomson, Georgia.She was born in Hart County and lived there until recent years.She resided at The Gables at Cobb Village in Royston five years before transferring to Thomson Health & Rehabilitation in September, 2018.
A former member of New Prospect Baptist Church, Mrs. Chastain served her Lord to the best of her ability in various capacities over the years.She was a member of Flat Shoals Baptist Church for the last 30 years and continued to serve as she was able.She retired from BASF in Anderson.
Mrs. Chastain leaves behind two children, Jerry Chastain (Iola) of Monroe, and Ann C. Roberts (Howell) of Thomson; two grandchildren, Kathy R. Barrett (Mark) of Simpsonville, SC, and Matt Roberts (Ari) of Roswell; 9 great grandchildren.Other survivors include siblings, Evelyn Fowler Clardy of Hartwell and Brownie Skelton (Christine) of Fountain Inn; three sisters-in-law, Mary Skelton, Sara C. Weaver, and Betty Joyce C. Beebe.Predeceasing her are her husband of 53 years, Horace J. Chastain; parents, Archie and Annie Bowen Skelton; six siblings, David Skelton, Otis Skelton, Sam Skelton, Lillian S. Sadler, Irene S. Simpson, and Lizzie Mae S. Chastain; granddaughter-in-law, Myrna S. Roberts.
Services will be conducted Friday November 30, 11:00 a.m., at Flat Shoals Baptist Church in Hartwell, and will be officiated by Revs. Cory Pulliam and Mr. Don Sadler.Burial will be at Nancy Hart Memorial Park.Visitations will be Thursday evening, November 29, 6-8 p.m., at Strickland Funeral Home, and Friday, November 30, at Flat Shoals Baptist Church one hour before the service.If desired, memorial contributions may be sent to Flat Shoals Baptist Church, 2999 Bowersville Hwy, Bowersville, GA 30516.
