Mr. Alex Ralph McDowell, 80, of Hartwell, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, SC.

Born on March 13, 1944 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late John T. McDowell and Ida Temples McDowell. Mr. McDowell was a self-employed mechanic, and he attended Price Chapel Church of God. He also loved fishing, hunting, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife: Evelyn Marie Finley McDowell; three daughters: Kim Isbell (Ron) of Lavonia, Pam Dean of Cumming, GA, and Dana Sanders of Hartwell; one brother: Shem McDowell of Hartwell; one sister: Ruby Moss of Hartwell; five grandchildren: Jon Seay, Sarah Seay, Justin Sanders, Jack Dean, and Luke Dean; two great-grandchildren: Laken Sanders and Ophelia Mazer; and several nieces & nephews also survive. Mr. McDowell is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: J.T., Bob, and Darrell McDowell; and five sisters: Sue Ellis, Belle Richardson, Lena Stone, Peggy Lipford, and Joyce Crocker.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at their respective homes.

It was Mr. McDowell's wishes to be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Franks officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Hart Co. Meals on Wheels c/o Hart Senior Center, 139 Clay St, Hartwell, GA 30643.
