Obituary

Mr. Alex D. Payne, 80, of 808 Hickory Crossing Road, Hartwell, died Wednesday, January 25 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born on July 30, 1931 in Lyman SC, he was the son of the late John A. Payne and Ilene Vaughn Payne.He was a retired Tech Sergeant, where he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.He was a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Vickery Payne; two sons, Marvin L. Payne of Eastanollee and Allen Payne of Toccoa GA; two daughters, Sonya Gauthier of Eastanollee and Joyce Rowland of Brunswick GA; three step-sons: Junior Vickery, Mike Vickery and Mark Vickery all of Hartwell; a step-daughter, Joy McCurley of Hartwell; four brothers, Tommy Payne of Greer SC, Joe Payne of Toccoa, Vernon Payne of Roebuck SC and William Payne of Travelers Rest SC; four grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several step-great grandchildren and a step-great great grandchild also survives.Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Mary M. Payne and Janis V. Payne; a daughter, Johnnie Sue Payne and a sister, Edna Wilson.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Rev. James Sexton and Rev. Mike Westbrook officiating.Full military honors will follow the service.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Friday.The family is at the home. Flowers are optional; memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, P. O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309
