IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfred "Al"
Iseley
November 8, 1929 – April 17, 2023
Alfred "Al" Henry Iseley, Jr. of Bowersville, Georgia passed Monday, April 17, 2023 at the age of 93. He was born on November 8, 1929 to Alfred Henry Iseley and Maude "Mac" McCollum Iseley in Kittanning, Pennsylvania.
Al was pre-deceased by his first wife, Kittie Lea Pringle Iseley, and is survived by his wife, Brenda Gurley Iseley of Bowersville, Georgia, three children from his first marriage, daughters Jane Carrol Iseley and Faye Annette Iseley (husband Albert Charles "Chuck" Bourget, Jr.) all of Lakewood Ranch, Florida and son Barry Alfred Iseley of Raleigh, North Carolina, grandson Eric Winston Iseley (wife Yvonne Sobiech Iseley) of South Glastenbury, Connecticut, and grandson Jackson "Jack" Montgomery Iseley of Raleigh, North Carolina; and stepson Thomas Gales Bowen, Jr. (wife Elizabeth Monk Bowen), step-grandchildren Hamilton Thomas Bowen and Mary-Stewart Elizabeth Bowen England (husband Dawson Josiah England), all of Starrett, Alabama, and stepson Benjamin Edward Bowen (wife Dr. Jamie Prevedel Bowen) and step-granddaughters Isabella "Bella" Aspen Bowen and Lillian "Lily" Rena Sierra Bowen, all of Heber City, Utah.
Al lived in many small towns in Virginia and North Carolina when he was growing up while his father worked building the Blue Ridge Parkway. His father's work also took the family to Honolulu, Hawaii, and he was living near Hickam Field December 7, 1941 when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Despite this, he had fond memories of Hawaii and many interesting stories, and in later years revisited his former home site.
At 16 years old, Al enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, the precursor of the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, then Geiger Field in Spokane, Washington and then Cheyenne, Wyoming, and was promoted from Private to Staff Sergeant in three years.
Al graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a CPA. He worked in Greensboro, North Carolina for AM Pullen and then Kavanagh Smith before moving to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to work in executive level positions for Wachovia Bank for 24 years until he retired. Over the years, a favorite phrase of his - tongue in cheek - was often heard - "I've been workin' like a dog." He later moved to Bowersville, Georgia after his marriage to Brenda.
Al had many hobbies. He not only loved his family but also loved animals and had many cats and dogs as pets. He read voraciously. In his younger years Al played tennis and golf and also bowled. He loved to play cards, and was a duplicate bridge enthusiast who accumulated master points. He also enjoyed playing poker and gin rummy. Al traveled extensively all over the world with his wife Brenda, with whom he had a loving marriage.
Al and his sense of humor will be sorely missed. How sweet it was!
