Mrs. Allene Benton Harris, 95, of Rockdale Road, Canon, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Hartwell Health and Rehabilitation after an extended illness.

Mrs. Harris was born March 13, 1923, in Commerce, GA, to her parents T. Homer Benton and Elizabeth Harris Benton. She was a graduate of Commerce High School and had resided in Hart County for the past 73 years.She was formerly employed by Bellcraft Mfg. Co., Monroe Auto Equipment Co., and Dunlop Sports. She was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church until health issues prevented her from participating. She served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the WMU, Choir, Joy Club and served on various outreach ministries at Bethany.

Allene is survived by her three children: Barry A. Harris and wife Linda of Canon, GA, Randall B. Harris and wife Pat of Cumming, GA, and Judy Harris Galletly of Birmingham, AL; one sister: Annette Benton Richey of Commerce, GA; seven grandchildren: Amy Kirkpatrick, Lee Harris, Brian Thames, Brooke Barnes, Becky Wiley, Trey Galletly and Laura Beth Short; eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Alfred W. Harris and three sisters: Gladys Benton Standridge of Commerce, Hortense Benton of Commerce, and Zelma Benton Williams of Lavonia.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the Bethany Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jerry Durham officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

Family will receives friends at the Bethany Baptist Church Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 prior to the service. The family is at Mrs. Harris' home on Rockdale Road. Flowers optional, and memorials made be made to Bethany Baptist Church, 2085 Bethany-Bowersville Road, Canon, GA, or to a charity of one's choice.

The Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
