Almon G. "Al" Price quietly and peacefully departed this earthly life for his heavenly home on the morning of Monday, May 19, 2008.
He was born the third of four sons to the late Garland and Ruth Price on June 27, 1928, in Johnston County, NC.After the untimely death of his parents, he and his three brothers were lovingly welcomed into the home of an uncle and aunt, the late Oscar and Bess Merchant, of Swannanoa, NC.
Following his graduation from Toccoa Falls Academy and Toccoa Falls College, he served as a Baptist pastor beginning his ministry in Hart County, GA in 1951 and pastoring eight churches in the southeast over twenty-eight years.In 1980, he became Field Representative and Missionary Evangelist with Northwest Baptist Missions of Salt Lake City, UT.For twenty-two years he represented their work throughout the country, helping to establish new churches in the Intermountain West and serving on the Board of Directors for the Mission.In 2001, he retired from full-time involvement with the Mission but continued to minister as his health permitted.He was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church in Danielsville, GA where he preached his final sermon on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008.
Ann Hewin Price, his beloved wife of nearly sixty years, was with him as his spirit departed.She served faithfully with him in life and ministry.She cared for him in sickness and in health.She looks forward to the day she will be with him again in the presence of their Lord when God chooses to call her Home.
His family includes son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Dia Price of Greenville, SC; daughter, Ruth Ann Price of Greenville, SC; granddaughter, Jeni Price Key and her husband Michael Key of Bishop, GA; grandson Elias Jared Price of Greenville, SC; great-grandsons Levi Christian Key and Silas Jonathan Key of Bishop, GA; brothers Graham Price of St. Cloud, FL, Clark Price (deceased) of Selma, NC, and Garland Price of Wendell, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 23, 2008, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lavonia.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday evening, May 22, 2008, at the Strickland Funeral Home in Lavonia.
