Mr. Alton Willie "Red" Fleming, 87, of Hartwell, died Monday, June 30, 2014 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA.
Born on September 7, 1926 in Hartwell GA, he was the son of the late John "Willie" Fleming and Teasley Byrum Fleming. He served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 during World War II.Red was a self-employed business owner entitled Red Fleming Used Cars. In addition to the car business, he worked as a ring man auctioneer for T. Lynn Davis Auctions.He also worked for Atlanta Auto Auction, Hudson and Marshall, and Barrett Jackson.He and his son Bunny ran a successful custom van business in the 1980's.He was a member of the Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge where he was recently recognized for 60 years of service. He was a member of the Yaarab Temple (Shrine) in Atlanta.He enjoyed cars, horses, cows and loved children.
He is survived by one son: Alton Willie Fleming Jr. "Bunny" of Hartwell; one daughter Peggy Fleming Medlin and her husband Robert of Evans, GA; two grandsons: Jeremy Medlin and Brooks Medlin and his wife Heather of Evans, GA; one brother Rev. Jack Fleming of Gastonia, NC.He was preceded in death by his parents, three wives: Allene Adams Fleming, Rose Kelly Fleming and Joy Robinson; one sister:Missouri Sourough; and one brother: Leonard Fleming.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Jack Fleming officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park with Masonic Rites.
The body is at Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.The family is at the home of Bunny Fleming, 6960 Cokesbury Hwy, Hartwell, GA. 30643.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC29605.
