Mr. Alton Brodus Sanders, 74, of 3813 Bowman Hwy, Hartwell, died Saturday, July 30 at his home.
Born on July 28, 1937 in Canon GA, he was the son of the late Emory E. Sanders and Texie Partain Sanders.He was retired from Hart Electric Membership Corporation, where was a construction superintendent when he retired after 41 years of service in 1999.After retiring, Alton traveled to many parts of the world with his wife. He went to Honduras to help build a church. He always loved coming home to his grandchildren, though. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church, Raymond Wilson SS Class and was a former deacon.Mr. Sanders was a US Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Sybil Jones Sanders of the home; a son, Gregory Alton Sanders & his companion Katrina Trahan of Hartwell; a daughter, Gwendolyn Shiflet and her husband Mike of Hartwell; a sister, Faye Zeigler of San Dimas CA; four grandchildren, Eli Sanders & his wife Brittany, Madison Sanders, Beth Shiflet & Mikayla Shiflet; a great-grandson, Mason Grant Sanders also survives.Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his parents; a son Grant Ray Sanders; two brothers, Emmett Sanders and Everett Sanders and three sisters, Kathryn Thomason, Annis Conway and Patsy Sanders.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. John Silver, Rev. Carter Tucker and Mr. Fred Greenway officiating.Burial will be in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday night.The family is at the home.Flowers optional, memorials may be made to the Sardis Baptist Church Youth Fund, 4359 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell, GA30643.
