Mr. Alvin Winford Voyles, age 86, of Martin, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at North Ridge Nursing Home in Commerce.
Born January 6, 1925 in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Joel and Maude (Aderhold) Voyles. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Voyles retired from the Department of Natural Resources, where he served as maintenance ranger at Tugaloo State Park. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years: Nettie Pauline (Ramey) Voyles; daughter: Shirley Sue Voyles; brothers: Willie Voyles and Coleman Voyles; and sisters: Zelma Taylor, Lucy Harbin, Nina Carter, Addie Dean, Flora Saylors, and Rachel Voyles.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Brenda Voyles of Hull, and Tommy and Maephene Voyles of Martin; sister: Ammer Crook; grandchildren, Shauna and Ed Smith, Melissa and Ed Peery, Jason Voyles, and Todd and Staci Voyles; and 8 Great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at their respective homes.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2011 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jason DeFoor and Rev. Hubert Carter officiating.Interment will follow in the church cemetery.The body will be placed in the church to lie in state beginning at 10:30 a.m.
