Ann Kesler Cheek, age 89, of Bowersville, widow of Hubert "Bud" Cheek, Jr. died January 24, 2013.
She was born July 10, 1923 in Oglethorpe County and moved with her family to Hart County in 1930.She graduated from Hartwell High School with the class of 1940.She has lived her entire married life in the city of Bowersville, taking an active part in civic, community and church activities.She was a member of Bowersville Baptist Church for 67 years and served in a leadership capacity in various areas.Throughout these years she was a teacher in classes that ranged from nursery to youth to the adult ladies class, and in later years became a member of the Dorcas Class.
She was retired from the US Postal Service, Lavonia facility.
She was the daughter of the later Herschel and Ovis Hemphill Kesler.Survivors are her children: Thomas Hubert (Tom) Cheek and wife Debra of Hartwell, Claire Cheek Wallace and husband George of Elbert County, and Cindy Cheek Hensley of Bowersville; three grandchildren – Melissa Ann Turpin of Bowersville, Victoria Rose Carpenter and husband Brian of Bowersville, and George Caleb Wallace and wife Shay, of Elbert County; one great grandson – Nick Turpin of Bowersville; siblings – Dot Kesler Snyder, Ed Kesler, and Wassie Kesler Vickery, all of Hartwell.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Chris Wallace, and a brother, Gary Herschel Kesler.
Services will be held Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Bowersville Baptist Church with the Rev. Connie Ivester and the Rev. Bobby Carson officiating.Interment will be in the Bowersville City Cemetery.Pallbearers: Caleb Wallace, Brian Carpenter, Anthony Lau, Kyle Kesler, Terry Vickery, and David Kesler.The family requests that memorials to honor the memory of Mrs. Cheek be made to Bowersville Baptist Church, PO Box 26, Bowersville, GA30516.Burial will be in the Bowersville City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home.The family is at the Hensley home, known as the Cheek homeplace in Bowersville.
