Obituary

Mrs. Armida Devore, 87, of Hartwell, Georgia died Friday, January 12, 2018 at Hartwell Health & Rehab.

Born April 16, 1930, she was the daughter of Arthur and Lena Crissey, natives of Sussex County, Sparta, New Jersey.She was a 1948 Newton High School graduate.

Preceded in death by her husband, Floyd C. Devore Jr., who initiated the use of small American flags in veterans' obits in the Hartwell Sun and her sister, Yvonne Crissey of Hartwell.

Survivors are son, Gary Devore and wife Paula of Hartwell; a daughter, Denise Newman and husband William of Cosmopolis Washington State; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Devore was employed by the New Jersey Herald and Sussex County YWCA, Newton New Jersey.The couple retired to Hartwell New Year's Eve 1983.They helped form the Swingin' Harts Square Dance Club.

Mrs. Devore will be remembered for her many dinner/dance shows in New Jersey as well as religious programs at Sharon Presbyterian and St. Andrews Episcopal churches.She wrote a fictional novel "Hartwell, Best Town By A Dam Site" about life in the South.She was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves baseball team.

A private memorial service to celebrate Armida's life will be held at a later date by the family.Her ashes will join her husband's in the St. Andrews Episcopal Church Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hart Community Food Ministries.
