Mr. Artis James Jones, 87, of 421 Bartson Street, Lavonia, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born March 31, 1919, in Hart County, he was a son of the late John Clarence and Ruth (Morris) Jones. He retired as an engineer with the GDOT. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Toccoa Church of God.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Jones; daughters and sons-in-law: LaDanna and Larry Appleby and Gale and Jimmy Landrum; son and daughter-in-law: Drs. Walt and Penny Mauldin; two brothers: Alton and Kendall Jones; one sister: Peggy Andrews; five grandsons: Patrick Appleby, Jeremy and Ryan Mauldin, James and Nick Landrum; one granddaughter: Shelby Whitt; four great-grandchildren: Tanner and Payton Whitt, Audra and Gann Mauldin. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers: Ray and Jack Jones; and two sisters: Betty Snow and Jewell Manley. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. from the Toccoa Church of God with Revs. Terry Addis and Dennis Rafala, and Dr. Walt Mauldin officiating.Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens, North. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home – Lavonia Chapel, where the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Toccoa Church of God Building Fund, Rt. 2 Box 422 G, Eastanollee, GA 30538.
