IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Artis
Ricks
March 2, 1959 – March 15, 2025
Rufus Artis Ricks, Jr., affectionately known as Art, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the age of 66, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Born on March 2, 1959, in Hart County, he was the son of the late Rufus Artis Ricks, Sr. and Geneva Kelly Mulkey Ricks.
Art was a proud 1977 graduate of Hart County High School and spent many years coaching little League, having a significant and positive impact on the lives of many young players. He dedicated many years of service to the retail grocery sector and the textile industry. The Lord led Art to prison ministry, which he hoped made a positive impact on so many.
Art's life was filled with passions that brought him joy and fulfillment. He was an enthusiastic golfer, car racing buff, and found peace in gardening. Art was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and loved teasing his brother, Bill (a die-hard Gamecock fan) about the rivalry. However, his greatest passion was fostering animals, particularly dogs. His love for his four-legged companions was unparalleled, and his beloved pets—Moose, Katt, Hope, and Reba—were truly the lights of his life. They, along with many others, will miss him dearly.
Art leaves behind a loving circle of family and friends. He is survived by his dear friend, Kelli Elliott Scott, his children, Britt and Lindi, and his siblings, Bill (Paula) Mulkey and Rita Ricks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Taylor.
In accordance with Art's request, he was cremated, and his family will hold a private celebration to honor his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Hart County Animal Rescue (hartcountyanimalrescue.org).
