Mrs. Julia Avoline Wilbanks "Mema" Chitwood, age 85, of Canon, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born April 18, 1925 in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late Gill & Samantha (Payne) Wilbanks. She was retired from Stone Mfg as a seamstress. Mrs. Chitwood was a member of Broad River Baptist Church in Banks County.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Quentin Clifford Chitwood; and brothers and sisters: G. T. Wilbanks, Virgil Wilbanks, Telford Wilbanks, Sevier Wilbanks, Travis Wilbanks, Vernese Wilkerson, and Estelle Newsome.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Carter & Shelia Chitwood and Barney & Sybil Chitwood; sisters: Christine Wilbanks, Elsie Mae Andrews, and Ruby Gailey; grandchildren: Chan, Sondra, Lasha, & Kassidy Chitwood; two step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Jones, Rev. Chris Chitwood, and Rev. Connie Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour. At other hours the family will be at the home. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
