Barbara Owens Burdette, age 85, of Canon, passed away Friday, October 16, 2020 at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, SC.
Born April 21, 1935 in Lavonia, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Clinton and Dora Faye (Cobb) Owens. She was a graduate of Lavonia High School. She worked as a teacher and secretary for the Franklin County School System. After retirement, she worked for several years as a volunteer with St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital. Mrs. Burdette was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by son & daughter-in-law: Keith & Jan Burdette; brother & sister-in-law: Ralph & Judy Owens; grandchildren: Bryan Burdette, Justin Burdette and Kayla Burdette; great grandchildren: Chandler, Bentley, Levi and Ashlynn. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Clyde Levi Burdette; daughter: Nancy O'Barr; and brothers: Wayne Owens, Phil Owens and Pete Owens.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2020 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. John Forbes and Dr. Larry Finger officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. At other hours the family will be at the home of grandson: Bryan Burdette, 4652 Lavonia Highway, Hartwell, GA 30643. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Cottingham Hospice House, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672.
