Barbara Kruger Peterson died peacefully at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC at 2AM on February 22nd.  She was 92 years old and is survived by her three children.  Berry Bate lives in Asheville, NC.  Bruce Thomas Bate lives in Hartwell, GA with his wife Carol and their two dogs.  Glen Karl Peterson lives in Anderson, SC.

Barby was born April 21, 1931 in the Bronx, NY.  Her early life was shaped by her loving parents, her sister Connie, and her preparatory school experience at Northfield School for Girls in Gill MA.  She married Bob Bate and moved to New Jersey where they had 2 children: Berry and Bruce.  She later married Glen R. Peterson, and moved to Bronxville, NY where they had one child: Glen Karl Peterson.  In 1996, Barby and Glen retired to Hartwell, GA near her eldest two children.  Glen passed away in 2004.

Barby had boundless energy, optimism, and generosity which she attributed to her steadfast Christian faith.  She and Glen were very active in the Reformed Church of Bronxville and the First Baptist Church of Hartwell.  She received her bachelor's from Concordia College and her masters in early childhood education from the College of New Rochelle before teaching writing at Bronxville Middle School.   She authored and had published dozens of educational filmstrips, several children's books, games, and even some audio recordings.

There will be a service at Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell, GA on Saturday March 2nd at 1:30.  Visitation with family prior to service.  Her ashes will be interred in Bronxville, NY.  Instead of sending flowers, please donate to Northfield Mount Hermon School in Gill, MA, one of her churches, the Hart County Humane Society, or the Audubon Society..
