Mrs. Barbara Coker Smith, age 90, of Lavonia, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Stephens County Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born November 8, 1928 in Hart County, she was the daughter of the late Harley Burton and Thelma Genora (Smith) Coker. Before retirement she worked as a machine operator for Stone Manufacturing and Carwood. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters: Carolyn Coker Gentry and Michelle Smith Chitwood both of Lavonia; grandchildren: Donna Teasley, Melissa Gentry, Michael Gentry, Kaitlyn Bowers and Landon Chitwood; great grandchildren: Kade Gentry, Kassidie Gentry and Lincoln Bowers; and sister: Mary Rogers of Lavonia; In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Smith; siblings: James Smith, Arthur Coker, Jannie Belle Certain, Sara Lee Atkinson, Floyd Coker, Geneva Jenkins and Genora Coker.
The funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce McGee, Rev. Fred Young and Mr. Ben Johnson officiating the body will be placed in the church at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Brian Chitwood, Jimmy Rogers, Michael Gentry, Harold Teasley, Swayne London and Tommy Voyles.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.at other times the family will be at the home of her daughter, Michelle Chitwood.
