Rev. Benjamin James Lumley, age 87, of Bowman, passed away peacefully, Monday, November 21, 2022 at his home.

He was born July 2, 1935, in Oak Park, GA, the son of the late Rev. Ralph and Annie Mae Lampp Lumley. His life was devoted to the service of his Lord and his fellow man. He was a veteran of the US Army and a former volunteer firefighter. He was a former chaplain for Cobb Memorial Hospital. Rev. Lumley was a retired minister with the Church of God. During his ministerial career, he pastored several Church of God congregations, including Oconee, Sandersville, Statenville, Attapulgus, DeGroat Street, Price Chapel, and Trion. He was a talented carpenter and an avid gardener.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Perry Lumley; brothers: Tommy Lumley and Larry Lumley; sisters: Annie Lee Rollins, Dorothy Welch, Elizabeth Pitts, and Faye Melton; and great-granddaughter: Braylee.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Amanda Hutcheson Lumley; daughters: Celia Rhodes (Earl) and Lisa Lumley; sons: Joel Lumley (Ann) and Chris Lumley (Shannon); daughter-in-law: Bobbie Lumley; brother: Rev. Ralph Lumley, Jr. (Doyce); sisters: Mary Frances Crooms, Christine McTier, Geraldine Smith, and Linda Raburn (David); grandchildren: Pam Gorff (Brian), Jay Lumley (Brandi), Ashley Lumley, Katie York, Emily Shubert (Zach), Avery Lumley, Matthew Lumley, Nathan Lumley, Michaela Lumley, Abbi Lumley, Benjamin Lumley, Grant Rhodes (Tricia), and Brandon Rhodes; and great-grandchildren: Kendra, Brenden, JamiLynn, Arianna, Preston, Isabelle, Wyatt, Holden, Zoey, Kiara, Blair, and Maddie.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia Rev. Tyrone Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Bowman with military honors. with Rev. Joshua Cabrera officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
