Mr. James Benson Saylors, 79, of the Mt. Olivet Community, Hartwell, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Regency Hospital, Greenville, SC.

Born on December 20, 1939 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late John Thomas Saylors Sr. and Mamie Lacie Phillips Saylors.Benson was retired from the Milliken / Newton Plant where he was a machine technician. He was a lifelong member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sang in the choir. Benson was also a member of the Nancy Hart Lodge #690 for 58 years. He also was a member of the Hart County Camp of Gideons International, where he served as chaplain, and served on the Board of Directors of the Hart County Farm Bureau. Benson was an avid gardener.

Benson is survived by his wife: Nancy Faye Marett Saylors; two daughters: Tracie Poole (Tom) of Cornelia, GA, Beth Lail (Shoan) of Hendersonville, NC; one son: Glen Saylors (Phoebe) of Jacksonville, FL; one sister: Frances Bailey of Hartwell and six grandchildren: Austin & Tanner Poole, Jansen & Shannon Lail and Aubrey & Riley Saylors. Mr. Saylors was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Floyd Saylors, Guy Saylors, Thomas Saylors; and one sister: Mary Sue Shivers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell.Other times the family will be at the home.

Funeral services for Mr. Benson Saylors will be Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Webb and Rev. Caleb Bond officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.The body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
