Obituary

Brother Bernard Sherman Shaw, age 76, recently of Carnesville, Georgia, endured many illnesses in his life and passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023 with his family by his side.

A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Brother Shaw was the son of the late Sherman Shaw and Thelma Salley born April 5, 1947. He was a graduate of Bonds-Wilson High School where he garnered the nickname "Bunny" notably due to his speed of running while on the football team. After getting his education he chose a career as a long distance and local truck driver for Georgia Pacific. He met the love of his life Dorothy M. Grant while in high school, and they married on November 28, 1965, to which four beautiful children he dearly loved were born. In 1962 as a young person he made a conscious decision to dedicate his life to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. During his years of service in the congregation he was privileged to be used by Jehovah as a ministerial servant and elder. Brother Shaw loved sports, especially football and basketball, and he was a nature enthusiast.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph "Larry" Shaw, James "Jimmy" Shaw, and Marcus "Mark" Shaw.

Brother Shaw is survived by his wife of 58 years Dorothy Grant Shaw, his children Thelinjoris R. S. Shaw, LouTress D. Shaw (Jessica), Bernette D. S. Shaw-Wakeman (Christian), Dana R. Shipman (Marcus), his grandchildren Courtney L. Roberts, Sierrah L. Roberts-Smith (Justin), Dorrianna K. R. Roberts, Tress Shaw, Matthew Shaw, Symeon R. Shaw-Wakeman, Dorothee` L. Shaw-Wakeman, Tianna B. Shaw-Wakeman, Micaiah D. Shipman, Nyla S. Shipman, his great-grandchildren Josiiah S. Strong and Jaxon J. Smith, his siblings Barbara "Linda" Washington (Caileb) Jennifer Felder (Wilson), Broderick O. Shaw (Debra), Sherma Shaw, Sally Hamilton, Joyce Edmonds, his sister-in-law Ruthie L. Hayes (Keith), and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Brother Shaw was cremated in accordance with his request. A Memorial Service will be held on January 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 10800 GA Highway 59, Lavonia, Georgia 30553.
