Bettie Jo Day Bennett, 78, of Lavonia passed away December 13, 2011 at Landmark Hospital in Athens, Ga. after a long bout with recurring respiratory problems.She is the daughter of the late Joe Earl & Lillie King Day of Martin, Ga.She was born in Greenville, S.C. on June 27, 1933.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.She also worked for 51 years at the Bank of Toccoa as a Teller, retiring in 2001.She had previously been a member of the Pilot Club and also the Red Hat Society.Hobbies included, traveling, painting, crocheting, and various art related endeavors.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years Alton Douglas Bennett of the home, son & daughter in law Keith and Holly Bennett of Safety Harbor, Florida, and two grandsons, Michael Douglas Bennett and his wife Ashley of Boston, Mass. and Thomas Martin Bennett attending Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla. as a senior.
The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 17, 2011 with Rev. Mike Smith officiating, followed by a brief graveside service and burial at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lavonia, Ga.A viewing is planned at Strickland Funeral Home in Lavonia for Friday, December 16 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.In Lieu of Flowers, donations to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in honor of Bettie would be greatly appreciated.
