Mrs. Betty Ellen Byrum Brown, 72, of 94 Cade Street, Hartwell, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Hartwell Health Care Center.

Born on July 19, 1940 in Hartwell, GA, she was the daughter of the late William Clyde Byrum and Josie Isom Byrum.She was a former store manager for Golden Pantry in Hartwell. Betty formerly operated Brown's Kindergarten and was a member of Abundant Life Baptist Church.

Survivors include one sister, Louise B. White of Hartwell; one nephew, R. Wayne White; and two nieces: Wanda White Wooten and Wende White Peloquin.Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, W. Grady Brown; and one daughter, Melody Brooke Brown.

Funeral services will be Friday, February 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Ken Brewer officiating.Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service.The family is at their respective homes.Special memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 855 Gaines School Road – Suite G, Athens GA 30605.
