Betty Jane (Carter) Brooks, 65, of Canon, died Friday, January 27, 2017 at her home following an extended illness.
Born July 3, 1951, in Stephens County, she was the daughter of the late Milford Carter and Sara Frances (Lewis) Carter May. She worked at the Flying J for many years. She was of the church of God faith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by step-daughter: Crystal Brooks; brother: Bobby Carter, Sr.; and sister: Maggie Carter.
She is survived by her husband: Ronald Coleman Brooks; son: Jimmy Mack Elrod, Jr.; step-children: Tabatha Polk and Ronald Brooks, Jr.; brothers: Roy Carter and Kenneth Carter; sisters: Shirley Ann Dove, Hilda Thomason, and Karen Carter; grandchildren: Trey Elrod and Taylor Elrod; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Carey Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours, the family will be at the home of Shirley Dove in Sandy Cross.
