On Monday night, September 2, 2019, Betty Harris Morris was called to her Heavenly Home. She was born in Lavonia on December 10, 1942 to the late James "J.C.' and Belva Gillespie Harris.
Betty was a graduate of Lavonia Schools, Class of 1960, and North Georgia University at Dahlonega, with a major in Accounting. She retired from Lucent Technologies in Norcross. Betty spent almost 40 years in Gwinnett County before returning home to Lavonia in 2001.
She is survived by two sons: James & Marjory Morris of Lavonia and Brian Morris of Brunswick. Three grandsons: Christopher & Bethany Waites Morris of Winder, Chad Hobson of Atlanta and Garrett & Abby Morris of Carnesville. One granddaughter: Elena Morris of Beavercreek, Ohio. Two great granddaughters: Brynleigh Morris of Carnesville and Audrey Morris of Winder. One sister: Judy & Kenneth Hulsey of Lavonia. The father of her children: Herman "Bo" Morris of Hartwell. And special friend: Louise Pickens.
Betty was a member of the Lavonia First United Methodist Church, past officer and member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy of Lavonia, a past member of Welcome Neighbors and a past member of the Lavonia Garden Club. She enjoyed Traveling, having visited all 50 states. However, her most favorite past time was playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2019 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with Rev. Hugh Hendrickson and Rev. Courtney Umbehant officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lavonia First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 176, Lavonia, GA 30553.
