Mrs. Betty Cordell Vickery Payne, 88, of Hickory Crossing Road, Hartwell, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023 at Brown Health & Rehab, Royston GA.

Born on July 29, 1934 in Hartwell GA, she was the daughter of the late Isham Cordell and Fannie Craft Cordell.  Mrs. Payne was a retired supervisor for the Hartwell Company, loved flowers, sewing for the public and baking.  She also was a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church, former SS Teacher, and choir member.  She currently attended Serenity Baptist Church, Hartwell.

Survivors include her daughter: Joy McCurley of Hartwell; three sons: Schafer "Junior" Vickery (Janet), Mike Vickery (Sherry) and Mark Vickery (Pam) all of Hartwell; one brother: Tom Cordell (Polly) of Hartwell; eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and nine great great-grandchildren also survive.  Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by her two husbands: Schafer Vickery Sr. and Alex Payne; three grandchildren: Chancie, Skylar and Sadie Vickery and four brothers: Harold, Gaines, William "Brick" and Amos Cordell.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell.  Other times the family will be at the home of Mark and Pam Vickery, Lou Gurley Road, Bowersville.

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Vickery Payne will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Larry Kaiser officiating.  Burial will be in the. Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
