Mrs. Betty Harper Tarr, 87, of Atlanta, formerly of Hartwell, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024 at MeSun Hospice in Lawrenceville GA.

Born on July 7, 1936 in Columbus GA, she was the daughter of the late Ernest William Harper and Katherine Elise Dockery Harper.  She was a graduate of Crawford W. Long Nursing School where she received her Registered Nursing degree. Mrs. Tarr was employed with Doctors Memorial Hospital in Atlanta GA which became part of Crawford W. Long Hospital and Elks Aidemore Children's Hospital which is now part of Children's Hospital of Atlanta. She was a member of the Master Gardeners, enjoyed hiking and founder of Hartwell Hikers. She also was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons: Roy Tarr (Debbie) of Hartwell GA, Sam Tarr (Lisa) of Grayson GA; one daughter: Kathy Tarr of Winder GA; four grandchildren: Chris Tarr (Sarah), David Tarr (Courtney), Erin Tarr, Harrison Tarr; four great grandchildren: Owen Tarr, Lucas Tarr, Maggie Tarr and June Tarr. Mrs. Tarr is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Lawrence "Larry" Tarr and one brother: Douglas Harper.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at their respective homes.

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Tarr will be Friday, March 15, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. John Silver and Rev. Susan Amick officiating.  Burial will be in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, 854 Village Greene NW, Marietta GA 30064.
