Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (Ray) Turner, age 88, of Lavonia, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at St. Mary's Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 3, 1929, in Woodbury, GA, she was the daughter of the late William Cecil Ray and Nedra Ann (Brown) Ray. She was a licensed real estate agent and retired from William E. Wood & Associates. She was a proud military wife, who supported her husband during his 30 years of service in the US Navy. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Lavonia United Methodist Church, the Lavonia Garden Club, and she enjoyed playing cards with her friends on Thursdays.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years: Curtis William Turner, Jr.; brothers: Gene Ray, Jack Ray, Ferrel Ray, and John Ray; and sisters: Dorothy Stephens, Ann Rettino, Jeanette Ware, and Annette Ray.
She is survived by her children: Yonnie Wooddall Murray & husband George; Dr. William Barry Turner, and Jill Turner Saunders; brothers: Frank Ray and Tommy Ray; sisters: Francis Walls, Peggy Nicolockis, and Linda Mincey; grandchildren: Marc Laliberty, Gwendalyn Levine, Amy Williams, Emily Payne, Marcy Robson, Cassandra Lyle, Mary Rustin, and Michael Laliberty; and twenty-one great grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the Lavonia United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flower, memorials may be made to the Lavonia United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 176, Lavonia, GA 30553.
