IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bill
Griggs
November 27, 1947 – September 13, 2025
George William Griggs, known to all as Bill, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on Saturday, September 13.
Bill was born on Thanksgiving Day, 1947, in Royston, Georgia, the son of Betty and Joe Griggs. He was a proud member of Hart County High School, class of '65, and went on to graduate from North Georgia College, where he served as Student Body President and later as President of the Alumni Association.
After college, Bill proudly served in the United States Army, First Infantry Division "The Big Red One", spending four years in Germany. Upon returning home, he continued his military service by joining the National Guard, 1-214 First Battalion Field Artillery and later retired with the rank of Major.
Following his time overseas, Bill returned home to help his father in the family business and later went on to cofound Griggs Wood Products and Docks South.
Bill loved his hometown deeply and gave back through service and leadership. He served as District Kiwanis Governor, President of the Hart County High School Booster Club, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and as a City Councilman and Zoning Board member, always supporting the future of Hart County.
An avid hunter, Bill's passion led him to explore remote parts of the world, sharing his adventures and stories with anyone who would listen. He was a proud supporter and participant of HCCT and enjoyed singing in the Sacred Heart and Community choirs, showcasing his love for music and performing. He was the funniest guy in every room.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Cheri Griggs; their children, Brian (Angela) Griggs, Cynthia (Christian) Lowe, and Suzanne (Justin) Stringfield; grandchildren, Camille, Laurel, George, Joseph, Griggs, and Trotter; and his sister, Gay McCommons (Pete). They were the heart of his life, and he delighted in showing his family the world through travel, creating lasting memories.
