Mr. William Frederick "Bill" Lyle, Jr., age 83, of Lavonia, died Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Toccoa Nursing Center following an extended illness.
Born March 28, 1925, in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late William Frederick Lyle, Sr. & Frances Harris Lyle. He was a veteran of the US Navy and of the Episcopal faith. He was a graduate ofthe University of Virginia, West Virginia University, and Georgia State University. Mr. Lyle retired as a professor from Kennesaw State University. He was a longtime supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son: Brian Kenneth Lyle; grandsons: Kenneth Phinney & Douglas Alan Lyle; and daughter-in-law: Beth Lyle.
Survivors include wife: Ardie (Williams) Lyle of the home; sons: William F. Lyle III & Judy of Murray, KY, David D. Lyle & Jenny of Hilton Head, SC, Peter F. Lyle of Cumming, and Scott A. Lyle & Megan of Alpharetta; brothers: Robert Lyle & David Lyle; grandchildren: Savannah G. Lyle, Madison M. Lyle, & Peter "PJ" Lyle, Jr.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Bielski officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Hospice, 1626 Jeurgens Court, Norcross, GA 30093.
