Obituary
Mr. William Leonard "Bill" McCollum, age 87, of Lavonia died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at his home following an extended illness.
Born February 16, 1922, in Pelzer, SC, he was the son of the late Daniel & Carrie (Brownlow) McCollum. He retired as a supervisor with the Lavonia Housing Authority. Mr. McCollum was a WWII veteran, where he served in the US Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Gerald McCollum; sisters: Agnes Smith & Falonia Wooten; and brothers: Holbert, John, Walter, Albert, Frank, & Price McCollum.
He is survived by his wife Mary (Canady) McCollum; son: Dan McCollum of Lavonia; daughters: Karen Cleveland of Lavonia & Angela Looney of Martin; sister: Lorene Segars of Cornelia; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Dr. Ross Layne & Rev. Josh Harvill officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home.
