Mr. Billy Earl "Bill" Murray, age 84, of Lavonia, died Thursday, December 24, 2015 at his home.
Born April 28, 1931, in Stephens County, he was the son of the late John W. and Sue (Youngblood) Murray. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He graduated from Piedmont College and retired from the South Carolina Department of Education as finance officer. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife: Anne (Haney) Murray; daughters: Rebecca Cole and Terrie Ferrell; brother-in-law: Brady Haney; sisters-in-law: Ethel Crawford and Stella Cathey; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Daniel J. Murray.
The memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Owensby and Rev. Josh Harvill officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1333 Pleasant Hill Road, Martin, GA 30557.
