Mr. Billy Gerald Bowen, age 80, of Lavonia, died Friday, January 3, 2014 at AnMed Medical Center.
Born November 11, 1933 in Lawrenceville, he was the son of the late Harvey Lee and Annie Laura (Chandler) Bowen. Mr. Bowen worked many years for Kraft Foods and was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Brotherhood Director, Sunday School Teacher, and minister to the shut-ins.
He is survived by his wife: Betty L. (Ratledge) Bowen; daughters: Valerie Tobias and Dawn Moore; sons: Joe Bowen and Marc Bowen; grandchildren: Jennifer Wiese, Christopher Tobias, John Tobias, Brooke Bowen, Brandon Bowen, Nathan Moore, Meredith Moore, Emily Moore and Sarah Moore;
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Harvill, Rev. David Wilson and Rev. Doug Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.
