Mr. Billy Gene Johns, Jr., age 57, of Lavonia, died Thursday, December 11, 2014 at his home.
Born September 24, 1957, in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late Billy Gene Johns, Sr. and Myrtice Lee (Thackson) Johns. He worked for Waste Management. He loved cars and enjoyed the challenge of restoring old cars. Mr. Johns was a member of Lavonia Church of God and the Martin Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife: L. Sharon Alexander Johns of the home; children: James & Tiffany Burdette of Riverdale, Brittany & Luke Young of Royston, Amber Burdette of Hiawassee, and Bobbi Johns of the home; siblings: Dixie Diane Sasser & Sam Black of Martin, Linda & Ron Eggers of Hudson, NC, Faye & Ed Hovell of Mobile, AL, and Connie Guthrie & David Larson of Winston-Salem, NC,; favorite uncle: Tilburn Johns of Sylacauga, AL; step-mother: Myrtle Duncan Johns; three grandchildren: Austin, April, and Alex Burdette; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Joe & Geneva Alexander of Lavonia, Helen & Morris Oliver of Eastanollee, Hugh Alexander of Martin, and Harold L. Alexander of Martin; several step-brothers and sisters; several nieces and nephews; and his dog: Izzy, whom he loved. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Charles "Punkin" Johns.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2014 at the Lavonia Church of God with Rev. Adam Tripp, Rev. Mickey Umbehant, and Rev. Josh Harvill officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home of Harold Alexander Walters Road, Martin.
