Mr. Billy E. South, age 78, of Lavonia, died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born August 7, 1935, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Walter and Isabelle (Bailey) South. He was a charter member of the Lavonia Jaycees, who were responsible for the establishment of the Lavonia-Carnesville Little League. He retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. Mr. South was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and a veteran of the Georgia National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Dwight South, Hoke South, Ray South, Jim South, Gus South, Poole South, and Travis South; and sisters: Mildred Miller, Maxine Payne, and Jewell Watson.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Linda (Mauldin) South; son and daughter-in-law: David and Cindy South; daughter Lynn South; three grandchildren: Morgan, Ethan, and Peyton South; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Harvill, Rev. Bill Stacey, and Rev. Edward Whitworth officiating. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home.
