Mr. Robert Lee Coughlin, 88, of 272 Athens Street, Hartwell, died peacefully, Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, South Carolina.

Born on December 19, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of the late William Joseph Coughlin and Emma Cleo Johnston.Mr. Coughlin was a retired Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Army.He saw active service in both combat theaters of the Second World War.He spent the war years in the merchant marines having enlisted at the age of 14.Upon his return to the U.S. in 1945 he was drafted by the Army and served in Japan as part of the occupation force.He would spend over 20 years in the 82nd Airborne Division and Special Forces (Green Beret) seeing action in both the Dominican Republic and Vietnam conflicts.

His wife, Roxie Anna Herring Coughlin and one brother and three sisters preceded him in death.He is survived by one daughter Kathy Adamson (CW4-Ret. Harry) of Mesa, Arizona; William Coughlin (Viki) of Columbia, South Carolina; David Coughlin (Debby) of Buford, Georgia; Steve Coughlin (Wanda) of Hartwell, Georgia; eleven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11:00 am at Northview Cemetery in Hartwell, Georgia with Reverend Carter Tucker officiating.
