Bonnie Chitwood

Mrs. Bonnie Sue (Powers) Chitwood, age 88, of Canon, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born on October 5, 1938, in Lavonia, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Alvin Chitwood and Mary Lou (Alewine) Powers. She was a homemaker and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Bonnie loved gardening and she especially loved her family.

She is survived by her husband: James Chitwood; sons and daughters-in-law: Tim & Susan Chitwood and Tony & Maria Chitwood; grandchildren: Ryan (Kesley) Chitwood, Cody Chitwood, Lindsay Martin (Jeffrey), Dylan Chitwood; great grandchildren: Abel and Autry Martin; and brother: Roger Powers (Judy). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings: Charles Powers, Mary Nell Batson (Marvin), Pauline Brady (Tuffy), Patsy Bryant (Lamar).

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Chitwood and Rev. Bruce Moore officiating. A private interment will follow at the Franklin Memorial Gardens-North. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday beginning at 12:00 p.m.
