Obituary

Miss Bonnie Lee Granville, 67, of Hartwell, passed away Friday, March 3, 2023 at AnMed Health Medical Center, Anderson.

Born on April 22, 1955 in Charlotte NC, she was the daughter of the late Ben Steedly Granville and Barbara Smith Granville.  Bonnie was raised in Harrisburg NC and was a graduate of Central Cabarrus High School.  After high school, she attended Western Carolina University, where she played on the Women's Basketball and Volleyball Teams and graduated with her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Physical Education.  She came to Hart County School System and became the PE Teacher for Airline / Mt. Olivet Elementary School on August 22, 1978 and retired from North Hart Elementary School on July 1, 2010 with 32 years of full time service. She worked part-time from August 1, 2010 to May 2015, also substituted from July 1, 2015 to 2021. She had a total of 44 years with the Hart County School System. During her time teaching in Hart County, she worked on and completed her Specialist Degrees at Clemson University, drove a School Bus during the school year and loved teaching and helping her students whenever she could.  Bonnie was selected Hart County Teacher of the Year by the School System 2008-2009 and the Walking Track at North Hart Elementary is named in her honor.

Bonnie is survived by her godchildren: Kerri Pruitt & her daughter Kerilee Pruitt of Hartwell and Kelli Cleveland (Shannon) of Auburn AL & their children: Kelsi C. Blair (Landon) of Charleston SC Kenedi Cleveland, Klark Cleveland, Kamdin Cleveland and Kirkland Cleveland all of Auburn AL and; a sister: Sherri G. Irvin of Marshville NC, two nieces: Brandi I. Mason (Michael) & her daughter: Braylin of Concord NC and Carla I. King (Christopher) and their children: Christine and Clara of Marshville NC.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Miss Bonnie Granville will be held Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hartwell. A reception for friends and former students to come together and share their remembrances of Bonnie will follow in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hart County Charter System School Nutrition c/o Hart County Board Office, P.O. Box 696, Hartwell, GA 30643, or Hart County YMCA Swimming Lesson's or Children's Programs, 281 Opal Street Ext, Hartwell, GA 30643.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to all Bonnie's teacher friends and former co-workers for all the expressions of kindness and visits over the past several months.

The Strickland Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hartwell is assisting the family with all the arrangements.
