Mr. Walter "Boyd" Chitwood, age 94, of Martin, died Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Pruitt Health of Toccoa.
Born April 26, 1920, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late I. E. and Agnes (Smith) Chitwood. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He retired as a construction foreman and heavy equipment operator with E & H Construction.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Winnie Blanche (Vandiver) Chitwood; daughter-in-law: Karen (Walker) Chitwood; brother: Fred Chitwood; and sister: Sarah South.
He is survived by his son: Wayne Chitwood of Martin; brother: Frank Chitwood of Jefferson; grandsons: Brad Chitwood and wife Amanda of Toccoa and Kyle Chitwood of Martin; great-granddaughters: Harli Chitwood and Maci Bowen; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Harvill and Rev. David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O.
