Mr. Raymond S. "Buck" Rutherford, Jr., age 79, of 424 Capri Point, Lavonia, died October 29, 2006 at Stephens County Hospital.
Born December 16, 1926, in Cobb County, he was a son of the late Raymond S. "Buck, Sr. and Ruby Meadows Rutherford. He was a graduate of North Georgia College of Dahlonega. Mr. Rutherford retired as an electrical engineer from Lockheed Martin, Marietta. He served in the United States Army and Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and attended Lavonia First Baptist Church. Mr. Rutherford also helped with Habitat for Humanity.
He is survived by wife: Bonnie Chappelear Elliott Rutherford; son: Bob Rutherford and wife, Tammy of Lavonia; step-son: Tim Elliott and wife, Diana of Lavonia; step-daughter: Kelli Scott and husband, James of Lavonia; brother: Ralph Rutherford of Lavonia; sisters: Allene Gore of Marietta and Mildred Rutherford of Atlanta; two grandchildren: Brad and Landen Rutherford; and two step grandchildren: Dustin and Clay Elliott. He was predeceased by his parents; first-wife: Jerry Umphrey Rutherford; son: Johnny Rutherford; and sister: Katherine McWilliams.
Memorial services will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2006 at the Lavonia First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Finger and Mr. Mike Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter, 870 Bear Creek Road, Lavonia, GA 30553, or to the charity of one's choice. The family is at the home.
