Obituary
Mr. Calvin V. Smith, 89, of Ridge Road, Hartwell, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Doctors Hospital, Augusta GA.
Born on July 7, 1932 in Carnesville GA, he was the son of the late Roy J. Smith and Mary Canup Smith.
Before Mr. Smith returned to Hartwell, he retired from the County of Sumter, Bushnell Florida and was the former owner/operator of Smith's Bicycle and Lawnmower Shop. He was also a member of the Hartwell Church of God and a veteran of the Korean War.During his service, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars.
He is survived by his wife: Betty Jean Smith; his children: Mary Smith Maddox (Eddie), Calvin Smith (KellyJo), Howard Smith (Angie), Connie Smith Cobb and Rachel Smith Turner (Steve); son-in-law: Randy Cobb; his grandchildren: Guy Maddox, Michele Burke (Adam), Justin Smith (Bre), Alicia Sepulvada (Carlos) and Randall Mask (Christy); his great-grandchildren: Lorissa, Ryan, Cody, Logan & Alyx Maddox, Graysen & Easton Burke, Ethan & Bryson Smith, Elayna & Jax Smith and Rylan Mask; several nieces and nephews and a special nephew: Bob Smith (Cindy) also survive.Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; first wife and mother of his children: Martha Ellen Sanders Smith; second wife: Mary Geneva Smith; grandsons: Jason Brent Maddox and Derrick Eugene Maddox; brothers: R.M. Smith, John Smith, Troy Smith, Lewis Smith, Guy Smith, Rev. Bill Smith and J.C. Smith; sisters: Vergie Smith, Blanche Stowe, Venice Isbell, Bird Sosby, Ruth Dawkins and Margaret Dooley.Mr. Smith was the last surviving sibling of 13 brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell.Other times the family will be at their respective homes.
A memorial service celebrating Mr. Calvin Smith's life will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Lonnie Bennett officiating.
In lieu of flowers, and memorials may be made to the Hartwell Church of God, PO Box 890, Hartwell, GA 30643. or the Hart County Animal Rescue, PO Box 45, Hartwell GA 30643.
