Mr. Carey Benson Stone Sr., 64, of 391 Mt. Olivet School Rd., Hartwell, died Sunday, November 09, 2008 at Hart Co. Hospital.

Born on February 9, 1944 in Hart Co. GA, he was the son of the late Curtis Stone.Mr. Stone was a retired technician for Newton Mills, member of the Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge # 690, Lake Hartwell Shrine Club and member and Past Commander of the Hartwell VFW Post.He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the US Army and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his mother: Lillie Goldsmith Stone of Bowersville; his wife: Betty Herring Stone of the home; two sons: Carey Benson Stone Jr.& Sherrie Stone of Canon and their daughter, Carrie Madison Stone; Greg & Jennifer Carnes of Hartwell and their children & grandchildren, Michelle & Lance Burns, Snow Eaton, Luke Carnes, Ava Carnes & Addison Burns; two daughters: Pam Carnes and her children & grandchildren: Christopher & Amanda Bowers, Carolyn & Eli McClain, Alex Bowers, Fiona Bowers & Katelyn McClain; Sharon and Rev. Doug Brown of Lavonia and their children: Will Brown, Amanda Brown, Phillip Hawkins and Sam Brown; three sisters: Shirley Bratcher of Hartwell, Edna Stone of Bowersville and Betty Vaughn of Hartwell also survives.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 11 ay 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Joe Black, Rev. Scott Mize & Mr. Fred Greenway officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park with Masonic Rites.
