Mr. Carey Tinsley Whitfield, 65, of 3769 Elberton Hwy, Hartwell, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at his home.

Born on June 22, 1946 in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late Carlton Whitfield and Lillie Mae Eaves Whitfield.He was the former owner of Service Grocery, the former supervisor at Monroe Auto Equipment Company, and former fishing guide at Santee Cooper Lake.Mr. Whitfield was also a member of Hartwell First Baptist Church, the Hartwell Bass Club, and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include two daughters: Wanda W. Peace and her husband, Doug, of Bowersville, and Karen W. Fitzpatrick and her husband, Greg, of Danielsville; three grandchildren: Sam Hicks, Misty Hicks, and Cameron Fitzpatrick; and two great grandchildren: Cheyenne Bennett and Luke Hart.Mr. Whitfield was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Linda A. Whitfield; three brothers: Rudolph Whitfield, Thomas Whitfield, and Pete Whitfield; and two sisters: Josephine Bannister and Robbie Foster.

Memorial services will be held Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hartwell First Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Williams officiating.A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.The family is at the home of Wanda and Doug Peace, 7852 Schaffer Street, Bowersville, GA 30516.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, 1600 Tullie Circle NE, Atlanta, GA 30329.
