Carolyn Bruce Ashby, loving wife, mother of seven children, poet and lover of the Lord died peacefully at home in Hartwell GA at the age of 90 on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Carolyn was born in Mobile, Alabama on September 23, 1933. She graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile and then attended Auburn University, where she met the love of her life, Eugene Ashby. They married in 1953 and lived in Auburn, Alabama and South Bend, Indiana, while Eugene completed his education.
Carolyn and Eugene raised seven children, Chris, Steve, Terry, Marie, Julie, Angie and Rachel. Their family includes 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
After living in Atlanta for several decades, Carolyn and Eugene retired to Hartwell in 2000, where they built a cattle farm and became an integral part of the community. Carolyn was a member of the Sardis Monday morning bible study group. She attended The Way Church and later Christ's Church in Hartwell.
Carolyn was a prolific Christian writer, authoring numerous poems, short stories, Christian teachings and two books. Her best known and favorite poem is 'The Sparrow Twerps". She wrote her first book, the Christian novel "My Name is Jonathan" in 2014 and her second book, "Perched on High, A Sparrow Sees Why!" a collection of her essays on the love of Christ, in 2016. Carolyn wrote passionately to encourage her family, friends and acquaintances to experience the love of the Lord that she embraced every day of her life. Her legacy of Love lives on in the changed lives of her family, friends and everyone who knew her.
A memorial service celebrating Carolyn's life and her love of the Lord, will be conducted at Christ's Church of Hartwell, 1318 Reed Creek Highway, Hartwell, on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christ's Church of Hartwell Building Fund, P.O. Box 1099, Hartwell, GA 30643.
The Strickland Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hartwell is in charge of all arrangements.
