Mrs. Carolyn Fortescue Payne, 73, of 180 West Franklin Place, Hartwell, died Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.
Born on May 6, 1940 in Abbeville, SC, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas "Bud" Fortescue and Victoria Mae Monroe Fortescue.She worked as a seamstress for 28 years with the Hartwell Company, and then she worked at Heritage Inn Nursing Home for 13 years and for the Hartwell Health Care Center for 12 years.Carolyn was a member of the Mt. Olivet Church of God.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Payne Pearson of Royston; three sons: Charles "Buddy" Payne, Jr. of Hartwell, James Terry Payne of Lavonia, Michael Timothy Payne and his wife, Leann of Royston; three sisters: Louise Tiller of Iva, SC, Sara Smith of Morrow, GA, Margie Green of Kentucky; four brothers: Tom Fortescue of Live Oak, FL, Johnny Fortescue of Abbeville, SC, Bobby Fortescue of Abbeville, SC, Ray Fortescue of Anderson, SC; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Helen Carter and Faye Luker; three brothers: Bill Fortescue, Gene Fortescue, and Infant Fortescue.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Wesley Allen and Mr. Fred Greenway officiating.Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Church of God Cemetery.
The body is at Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.The family is at their respective homes.Flowers optional or special memorials may be made to Mt.
