Carolyn Swanson Walters, age 86, of Lavonia, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

Born September 30, 1936, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Earl C. and Edna Hackbert Swanson. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Chicago. She was a veteran of the US Navy and was a Small Business Owner. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister & Friend. Her love will always be remembered and felt by her family.

She is survived by her children: Dale Walters (Susan), Don Walters, Dawn Walters & Dennis Walters (Judy); grandchildren: Jessica Walters (Micah), Morgan Walters (Kyle), Mackenzie Nageli (Teren), Sara Jeppson (Joey), and Madison Walters; great grandchildren: Kasli and Coast; and sister: Elaine Peterson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Dan Alvin Walters and brother: Wayne Swanson.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia with Rev. Courtney Umbehant officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the service. At Mrs. Walters' request, cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes.org.
