Mrs. Carrol June Patterson was promoted to glory July 21, 2015 from Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson, South Carolina.
Carrol was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on September 13, 1934 to Joseph Clarence "JC" and Laveta Zimmerman.After graduating from Central High School, she attended nurses training before working in the hospital and clinics in that area.She married Paul Burke in 1955, who served in the Air Force.Their first child, Ellen, was born in Lancaster, California in 1956, daughter Marie in Antelope Valley, California in 1957, son Tim in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1964, and daughter Angie in 1965, also in St. Joseph.Other postings were to Cheyenne, Wyoming and Albuquerque and Roswell, New Mexico.She loved cats and dogs and rarely lived without at least one.
A career change for Paul brought them to Maryland in 1970.They were divorced in 1978.She continued to work as a nurse at Anne Arundel Medical Center working in Intensive Care and Coronary Care and was an early leader in the care of pacemaker implant patients.Carrol met Eugene "Pat" Patterson at a Parents Without Partners meeting and they were rarely apart until their marriage on Valentine's Day 1981.Pat was employed by the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland.
Retirement for Pat brought them to Hartwell, Georgia in 1986.Carrol continued nursing in Elberton.They enjoyed travel and were active in the First Baptist Church of Hartwell.Carrol loved to share her creative talents in cooking, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, stenciling, jewelry-making and painting.
She is survived by her husband Pat, children Ellen Coale (Greg) of Pasadena, Maryland, Marie Grubbs (Matt) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Timothy Burke (Darlene) of Niceville, Florida, and Angela Ashby (Bob) of Edgewood, Maryland,step-children Steven Patterson (Rita) of Arnold, Maryland, David Patterson (Rebecca) of Lusby, Maryland; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and a step-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 11:00 in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Albanese and Rev. Carter Tucker officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 on Monday, July 27 at Riverview Cemetery, 1701 Chesapeake Street, Charlottesville, Virginia.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the service.
