Mr. Charles Caleb Chitwood, age 87, of Lavonia, died Sunday, September 13, 2015 at his home.
Born March 15, 1928, in Banks County, he was the son of the late Fort and Neatti (Norton) Chitwood. He owned and operated Chitwood Farm and Chitwood Logging. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was a supporter of the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter.
He is survived by his wife, five children, a number of brothers and sisters, seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four beloved dogs.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Gettis Allen, Rev. Chris Chitwood, and Dr. Joe Renfro officiating. Cremation will follow the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. At other hours the family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter, 870 Bear Creek Road, Lavonia, GA 30553. Mr. Chitwood was an active member of the community, including many years of service as a board member of the Franklin County Board of Education.
